UK
Brighton has climbed 9 places in the world ranking of student cities this year and is ranked 83rd in the world. The city is known for its laid-back attitude, is one of the UK's most popular seaside resorts, with sunny beaches on the south coast. The city is also known for its thriving LGBTQ community, full of creative and energetic people. Brighton has the highest proportion of students among all UK student cities, with students accounting for 11.7% of the total population and international students 27% of the total number of students. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the city scored the highest in student portfolio rankings and was ranked 24th in the world. Its top-ranked university is the University of Sussex, which is ranked 246 in the 2020 QS World University Rankings
Aberdeen
This year it dropped one place and Aberdeen was ranked ninth in the UK and 64th in the world (down nine places). There are miles of coastline and countryside close to Aberdeen, as well as good transport links to other cities, making it an ideal study destination for nature lovers. The best ranked university in the city is the University of Aberdeen, which is ranked 194. Although not particularly cheap, Aberdeen scores higher on the affordability index than any other British city, and the cost of living and rents are lower than other major cities in the ranking. Scottish students and EU students (excluding students from other parts of the UK) can study for free. You can read about the best universities in Scotland here.
Newcastle upon Tyne
NewcastleuponTyne (or Newcastle for short) fell two places to eighth in this year's ranking of the best cities for students in the UK, and fell one place to 57th in the world. Newcastle and the wider region have some of the strongest universities in the Northeast, such as Durham University (tied for 78th in the 2018 QS World University Rankings®) and Newcastle University for 146th.
